Message:

1. We have been commanded to LOVE one another as Jesus showed us how much He loves us - let the preschoolers aged 5 and below understand how it is to love the way Jesus loves.
2. One another means everyone - who are the people I should love?

Will be showing the kids photos of different actions and will ask them what the kids in the photo feel. This is so they will associate an action or situation to a feeling, as kids do not know yet to identify what they feel as being pissed, afraid, hurt, etc.

Spiritual - Who is My Neighbor
As the kids find out that different situations make them feel different emotions, that's okay. However, we should choose to feel the right way no matter what. We may feel scared, but we may choose to love still.

Will be showing them a modernized video of the Good Samaratan Parable, copyright of Kidmo.




Practical - How have I been Loving to my Neighbor Today?
After watching, will tell the kids that as young as they are they may do loving and kind acts to their neighbors. Ask them what are the good things they have done to their neighbor today, or yesterday. Or what they plan to do tomorrow?

Social - Heart Cards for Craft Time
Have prepared folded colored board cards that may be used as greeting cards. In front is a figure of a heart drawn on it. The kids may paste small bits of recycled paper to make a mosaic heart.

Inside, they may write their message to anyone they wish to give the card to.

Line Game


Got this game from the movie The Freedom Writers, when teacher Miss Erin Gruwell drew a line on the floor. She asked her students to go near the line if their answers are yes to her questions, or if they agree with her statements, which were about their experiences - her students have a multi-racial background where discrimination and dealing with gangs are common.

Will be drawing a line on the floor too, then will ask the kids to step on the line if their answer to my questions are yes, or if they agree with what I said. My questions will be:

• I love to go with my parents to Church on Sundays.
• I have one friend in Sunday School.
• I have two friends in Sunday School.
• I have more than two friends in Sunday School.
• My best friend is in Sunday School.
• I love the songs and videos at Sunday School.
• I like my teachers in Sunday School.
• I love the food in Sunday School.
• I will go to Sunday School again next Sunday.

Spiritual - Who is the Most Important

Will be telling a story about cooperation and how everyone is important using finger puppets. The story goes this way:

Ako ang Bida

Nang matapos ng likhain ng Diyos ang limang magkakaibigan, nagusap-usap ang mga ito. 

Hinlalaki: Ako ay malusog. Maliit lang, pero malakas. Kung hindi dahil sa akin, hindi magiging ok. Kaya ako ang pinaka-bida!

Hintuturo: Hindi totoo yan! Ako ang bida! Ako si hintuturo. Dahil sa akin, kahit ano, pwedeng ituro. Ako ay mataas, maliksi at laging ginagamit pang-turo.
Gitnang Daliri: Ako yata ang bida! Tingnan nyo, sa ating lahat dito, ako ang pinakamataas. Ako rin ang nasa gitna. Hindi pa ba sapat na sa inyong lahat, ako ang sikat? 

Palasinsingan: Talaga? Bakit sa akin nilalagak ang gintong singsing? Iya'y dahil ako ang pinaka-pinagkakatiwalaan. Ako ang bida sa ating lahat.

Narinig ng Diyos ang pag-uusap nila at nagsabi, "Lahat kayo ay tama. May mga katangian kayong magaganda. Subalit ito ang sasabihin ko: kung hindi kayo magtutulungan, lahat ng katangian nyo ay mapupunta lamang sa wala. Ang kamay na siyang kinalalagyan nyo ay hindi magagamit ng tama. Magiging bale-wala ang inyong kakayahan. Ito ang lagi ninyong tandaan, lahat kayo ay ginawa kong espesyal."

Napahiya ang limang daliri. Nagkatinginan silang lahat at nagbati-bati. Mula noon, lagi ng nagtutulungan ang lima. Alam nilang magkaka-iba man ang kanilang katangian, walang nakahihigit sa sinuman. 

Social, Practical - Finger Puppets


     Will be bringing materials that will let the kids make their own finger puppets using the procedures from TLC.

Will be asking the first few kids to finish to show their puppets and create their short story on the spot  - with our puppets. We will be conversing behind the puppet stage using our created puppets.

Lesson Introduction

Family Goes to Town

Same concept as the relay game Maria Goes to Town. Group the kids into two. Best to have a minimum of four members. There will be four sets of 'costumes':

• for dad (necktie, belt, socks, etc.)
• for mom (necklace, bag, ladies' shoes, etc.)
• for boy kid (backpack, cap, ball, etc.)
• for girl kid (doll, bib, etc.)

Depending on the kids' energy level and capability, determine the number of rounds before a winner is proclaimed.

Lesson Time

These following sections may be interchanged depending on the class' response or over-all attitude. I would like to think of it as a whole pack of tools. :) Best to be very armed as some activities may finish quicker than planned.

Part of my research for this lesson is coming across the book by James Mollison: Where Children Sleep It is a picture book of kids photographed and put side-by-side with the places they sleep in.

If given the time, will let the kids show where other kids their age live in. This is to expose them to the reality of being comfortable, poor, privileged or struggling as these kids are around the world.

Oriental
As Filipino children, there are responsibilities and good behavior expected and desired from my preschool students. Will be printing out these photos of these actual kids, along with clipart of bad habits. They are to encircle the ones they choose. Once everyone has finished, will be calling on each one to explain at least one of their choice in front.

Present a skit where teacher/s may pretend as preschool kids showing good and bad behavior. The voice-over may be the kid reading the script below, or a colleague. The teacher acts out the story and afterwards, the kids will be asked which among the two they should be at home.

God Made You and Me

Genesis 1:27 New International Version (NIV) 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

27At nilalang ng Dios ang tao ayon sa kaniyang sariling larawan, ayon sa larawan ng Dios siya nilalang; nilalang niya sila na lalake at babae.


Message

• God created me. He formed all parts of my body.
• God created all of human beings around the world - different and unique.
• I am made in His image.
• I am commanded to take care of all His other creations.

Lesson Introduction

Show up a mirror. Pass it around and ask what they see?

Then, get the mirror and look into it. Describe my face as I see it. Look for the perfect time to say that whenever we look at God's creation, we see a bit of God.

Explain further that it seems like as God created us, He gave us all a bit of Him. Together, along with all His creation, we may see His handiwork, and therefore know Him too.

Lesson Time
Spiritual
Tell the story of Creation again, this time telling it the way those two theater actress did it once upon a story telling time in Fully Booked. Using different voices, moving all around the place, using props, and engaging the kids - interacting with them, asking them, encouraging them to talk to the other character as the story goes along.

Props needed:

1. Scarf - When I put it on, it means it's story time and they have to listen
2. Flashlight / Mobile Phone - Turn off light as God didn't create the world yet so it was dark. Then turn on flashlight/mobile phone when He said, "let there be light" and turn on light.
3. Blue cloth - Wave it high to signify the sky for Day 2 (the scarf may be used too, as the sky)
4. Brown cloth - Spread it and step on it when God formed the land, all the rest of the floor not covered is the sea
5. Plush toy shaped like moon, star, sun - I only have the star, so will probably just cut out the moon and the sun

Social, Digital, Oriental

As they learn that God created man, including all of us, will proceed to show them a selection of photos of different people wearing their traditional costume. This may point out that there are different races around the world and we are all unique and equal.

Will be going to flickr for this.

Practical
As creations of God, we are in charge of all the world. How do we best take care of all of His creations?

Booklet of good habits - will fold three papers into half, to make a 6-pager booklet. The first paper I will use a colored paper to serve as cover. Will give them each a sheet of paper with printouts of kids doing the following:

Shipwreck in Malta, Teaching Apostle Paul to Preschool, Romans 8:28

Bible Verse Romans 8:28: 

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Alam natin na ang lahat ng mga bagay ay magkakalakip-lakip na gumagawa para sa kabutihan nila na mga umiibig sa Diyos, sa kanila na mga tinawag ng Diyos ayon sa kaniyang layunin.

Message:

To learn what happened to Paul as a result of talking to others about God.

To know that we are called to encourage others.

Lesson Introduction:

Introduce Paul to kids:

- Apostle of Paul who wrote most of the New Testament

- Friend and follower of Jesus

- A disciple

Lesson Time:

Let’s open our Bibles to Acts 27.  

Finally it is time for Paul to travel to Rome.  (Show map)

Paul sailed for Italy under the guard of a centurion named Julius. At the first stop Julius was kind enough to Paul to let him get off the ship and go visit his friends. They provided for his needs.

They sailed again and at the next port, they changed ships. The wind was blowing so hard it was difficult for them to stay on course. Paul told them the trip was becoming dangerous, but the centurion decided to continue.

Hurricane force winds began to blow. They dropped anchor and the waves started battering the ship. In order to lighten the load, they began to throw the cargo overboard.

By the third day of the storm, they were throwing away the ship's sailing gear. The storm went on and on for days. Paul stood up and in effect said, "I told you this was going to happen". He encouraged them by telling them about an angel who had appeared to him in the night. The angel told him the lives of all the people on the ship would be saved.

They had endured the storm for two weeks and were now getting close to land. They measured the depth of the water again and again. It was obvious they were getting in shallow water closer to land. They dropped four anchors to prevent them from being dashed against the rocks at the shore.

Paul urged the men to eat to gain some strength. They hadn't eaten for fourteen days. He took some bread, gave thanks, and began to eat. The other men ate also. Then they threw the grain in the cargo overboard to further lighten the ship.

When dawn came, they saw land. They lifted the anchors and ran the ship to the shore. It stuck fast in a sandbar and the ship began to break into pieces.

The soldiers planned to kill the prisoners to keep them from escaping, but Julius, the centurion in charge of Paul, convinced them to spare everyone. He ordered them to jump overboard. Those who could swim swam to shore. Those who couldn't swim grabbed pieces of wood and floated in. Everyone was saved, just as Paul had predicted.

They were told the island was called Malta. The people there were kind to them. It was cold and raining. They started to gather wood for a fire. Paul picked up some wood and put it on the fire.

A viper crawled out of the wood and fastened itself to his hand. The people, when they saw the snake, thought justice was being done. They figured Paul was a murderer and even though he had escaped the sea, he was going to die of a snakebite. (Or so they thought.) They kept watching him to see what would happen. Then when nothing happened, they decided he must be a god.

They were invited to stay at the home of Publius (pub LEEus) the official on the island. The father of Publius was sick and Paul healed him. When the islanders heard of the miracle, they too brought their sick folk and all were healed. The people provided for all their needs and after three months they set sail again.

If you visit Malta today you can see the ancient fortifications of the city.

Crafts/Game Time:

Out in the sea sailing, navigators use the stars as guide. For crafts activity, we will make our very own star mobile.

Jesus Makes Hearts Clean

Bible Verse: God has given us his Spirit... [and] sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 1 John 4:13a, 14a

Message: Jesus is my Savior.

Lesson Time:
Inspired by a story-telling session I witnessed in Fully Booked with my kids, this week's will be that. I will be using this version of the Prodigal Son from Mow Cop Church.

Lesson Introduction:
Mention phrases or actions and make them stand up if it's a good choice, and sit down if it's a bad choice.

• Eating vegetables
• Telling lies
• Respecting older people
• Cleaning up
• Waking up early
• Not sharing toys
• Exercising
• Crossing the street
• Washing hands with soap
• Playing with food

Noteworthy
Since the story is popular, I had to explain to them what prodigal means. I also changed the scenario to make the story more close to home. Like the prodigal son went to Timezone and lots of chocolates he bought, then bought all the toys in Toys 'R Us, etc.

Crafts
The kids made their own pigs using used tissue paper rolls covered in pink paper with printouts of the face and the tail glued at both ends.

Jesus the Son of God

Bible Verse: Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. John 15:13


Message: Jesus is the Son of God and we can be sure that God loves us because Jesus loves all.


Lesson Time:
This Sunday was special, the kids are treated to a video time about Jesus the Son of God. Through a laptop's CD player projected to a white screen, the kids saw Jesus' life summarized - as a baby born in a manger, as a young boy found by his parents inside the temple teaching older people about God, as a grown up man about to be hung on a tree to die.

Teacher Tip: There were some scenes when the kids would ask questions. These times, I press the player pause and explain to them the main point.


Game: In order to prepare the preschoolers to the video time, I let them jump up several times - to exhaust their energies. I let them shout at the top of their lungs too, with the room as soundproof as it could be.

Then, I reminded them that when they are watching, they should be quiet and mindful of their classmates' needs.


Crafts/Arts Time: Coloring Contest
With templates of Jesus hanging on the cross to die, I asked the kids to color the picture while giving their best. They are to share crayons too. Afterwards, I asked them to line up their finished work, properly labeled with their names written on them by them, near the wall for the 'judges' to choose from.

Those with the most number of votes will win.
